Such medicines may be necessary to preserve the sanity of the caregiver. Sometimes they are necessary to help the patient get through the day. What should always remain clear is that treating external behavior is not a substitute for genuine caring affection.

While physicians do not serve as your personal support network, they are there to help. They are an adjunct expert for you as a caregiver and for the caregiving support circle around you. Please ask, firmly and repeatedly if necessary, the names, dosages, intended effects and possible side effects of any prescription medication. This will help you support your loved one.
